Summer Hailstorm Damages Barolo and Monteferrato Vineyards

ITALY (Langhe) – After the low at the end of July with unusually strong winds, rainfalls, and hailstorms, it is clear – top vineyards in the Piedmont region noticeably suffered. Rainfalls and hailstorms pattered over large parts of the Lange area on the grapes during two days. The tempest was aggravated by strong winds. “It was a real tornado”, regional vintners said. The vineyards damaged form a broad strip around Barolo and Monteferrato. The vintners expect noticeable yield losses, depending on the region.

Wine Land Allgäu: They Have Already Found a Queen for the Fifth „WineNight“

GERMANY (Bad Hindelang) – Recently, when Josefine Schlumberger from Markgräflerland was elected the new German Wine Queen in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, the election was followed by protests from Franconia. Hermann Schmitt, managing director of the local wine growers association, expressed his anger because Kristin Langmann, his candidate, was sort out already in the round before and was not found good enough for the final one week later. He demanded a wild card, and after it was rejected by the organizer, the German Wine Institute, he wondered out loud about a boycott of the election of the Wine Queen in the future.
