Maurizio Zanella is the sixth president of the almost 20-year-old history of the consortium (on March 5th 2010 the 20th anniversary will be celebrated) and is following in Ezio Maiolinis footsteps, who had the seat for 2 consecutive mandates (from 2003 until today) and who was not allowed to be reelected.
Maurizio Zanella started as a wine maker in the growing region of the Franciacorta in 1968. Today he is president of the Ca'del Bosco Srl in Erbusco - an agricultural company, which cultivates 160 hectares of vineyards and exclusively concentrates on Franciacorta-wine.
"I would like to say thank you to the producers for putting their trust in me", says Maurizio Zanella. "I am convinced that the consortium should stress and follow its goal that the quality of the Franciacorta should further develop with its own identity and the values that it presents. The goals that all the producers share, whether small or big, has to be the protection of the name Franciacorta and the belonging growing regions and vineyards, which are incomparable treasures and resources.
Research and experimenting together with communication will play a key role in the future of the Franci. The education will have the important task to increase the professionalism of all employees and thus it will become the link between the members."
"I am sure that Maurizio Zanella will do a very good job in fulfilling this role thanks to his experience as successful producer and thanks to his long, constant and important work in the Consorzio per la Tutela del Franciacorta and in the growing region of the Franciacorta itself", says the former president Ezio Maiolini.
Some data of the Franciacorta: In 2008, more than 9.6 million bottles were on the market, with an increase of 16 percent compared to the previous year. 15 percent of production, more than 1.45 million bottles were exported, 30 percent of that went to Germany (ca. 440.000). The most active sales canal, with 95 percent of total sales, is the Horeca (Hotel, Catering, Wine Bar) in Italy as well as in Germany. (aw.yoopress)
