There is a very extensive section about the types of vines that are cultivated in Geisenheim and the characteristics of the different clones are explained. The performance features of 23 white wines and 13 red wines and its clones in terms of fruit, cider weight, acid and botrytis risk are displayed in a bar chart. The longtime medium figures, which were calculated at the in-house vine fields are used as a basis. In order to improve the illustrations and make comparisons easier, these figures were turned into percentages and put into relations with each other.
Another focus is the history of the groundwork cultivation, as well as the current cross-cultivation and location-qualification inspection of groundwork vines, which are an important part of the research work. For this work, there is a total of 13 groundwork types and its clones, which are worked with at Geisenheim in a preservative cultivation process.
There is a very thorough explanation of origin, ampelography, features, cultivation qualification and use for the fruit and groundwork types. Thus, this new book has the goal to show the current development state of the cultivated and selected vine types and clones and its features in Geisenheim and thus, it is also a dictionary for students and experts of viniculture.
The 156-page-long book also has 13 black/white and 221 color pictures. Authors: Joachim Schmid, Frank Manty and Bettina Lindner. (aw.yoopress)
