GERMANY (Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler) - Expert knowhow is of high importance in the TOP-restaurant buisness. Knowing your profession well makes it easier on a day-to-day basis to be more professional and more effective. Thus, expert knowhow is the first step into a successful career for young and ambitious winelovers.

The International Wine Institute, based in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler will offer a new seminar for "IWI-certified Commis Sommelier/iere" starting in February 2011. The seminar consists of seven learning modules with 2 days each. This seminar focuses on practical training and it includes oenology, wine sensors, general knowledge about wine-growing regions, tastings, wine and food combinations and the practice of all wine serving methods at the table. There will be one course each in Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler and Geisenheim every year.

A very unique part of the seminar is turning the course into a Blended-Learning. Participants are encouraged to go over everything they learned in previous lessons the days that they are not in school, namely via an internet-based platform. E-learning enhances the knowledge of the participants and thus supports a special kind of willingness to perform. Anytime during the seminar, every participant has online access to videos, pictures, articles and graphics. A test after every learning module documents what was understood and learned. Once a week, a competent tutor is available in the IWI-chatroom to help with questions and explanations. This education project is organized together with the Campus  Geisenheim GmbH and consists of seven modules.

This project is offered by the International Wine Institute together with Campus Geisenheim GmbH. "The cooperation of these two institutions has many advantages for our students", says Birgit Ritter from Campus Geisenheim GmbH. "We are responsible for the categories oenology and wine sensors and the International Wine Institute is in charge of global wine training and the serving of wine at the table of the guest", says the director.

Alexander A. Kohnen, owner of the International Wine Institute is responsible for the organisation and practice of the whole project. Kohnen is an experienced sommelier trainer and professional in the restaurant and catering education industry.

Well-known teachers and only the best basic conditions ensure an excellent advanced education for sommelier's.
