"When we brought out the top list", jury-member Joel Brian Payne is quoted, "100 were just too much. Back then we did not have this many excellent wineries yet. Today, 100 is basically not enough". There is no ranking within the list. All hundred wineries are treated equal - in 2010 we accepted six new wineries.
From the six new wineries this year, Schloss Johannisberg, Schloss Schoenborn in Hattenheim and Künstler in Hochheim am Main make up the three wineries from Rhinegau. Now, this region is represented once again with 14 names. Rhinehesse is represented with two more names and thus six total among the 100 best wineries. Dreißigacker in Bechtheim and Kühling-Gillot in Bodenheim. are the two "newbies". Moselle added Schlosskellerei-winery C. von Schubert in Mertesdorf. The Moselle makes up roughly a quarter of the best wineries with 27 total, Palatinate has 18 wineries in the list. From Baden there are 9, Nahe had 7, Wuerttemberg 5 and Franconia and Middlerhine 4 each. (textquelle.handelsblatt - red.yoopress)
