GERMANY (Mainz) - Under the motto “Pinot to the power of 3 - The Pinot Trio”, the German Wine Institute (DWI) will be focusing on the three most important Pinot grape varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc in its presentation at ProWein 2011 in Düsseldorf. Both, in Germany and internationally, this trio is growing in popularity. Furthermore, Germany is among the most important producing countries of these grape varieties.

With a total of 20.000 hectares, Pinot wines account for one fifth of Germany’s total vineyard area. Thanks to the different terroirs within the 13 German wine-growing areas, these varieties are uniquely diverse. Visitors can experience this diversity at the DWI booth at ProWein (4G86), where a representative selection of the Pino Trio will be available for tasting which is free of charge.

In addition, the DWI will once again be offering a forum for the presentation of  industry-wide product-and marketing concepts from the winegrowing regions, including wine presentations from Baden and Wuerttemberg, or from Ecovin.

In a press conference, DWI managing director Monika Reule will give information on the current market position of German wines at home and abroad on Monday at 11:30am. In addition, a new DWI competition for the food trade with the title “Excellent Wine Section 2011” will be presented, which will be offered in cooperation with the trade magazine “LZ direkt”. Following the press conference, the winners of a Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc competition for the Lufthansa First Class will be announced by the DWI and Lufthansa representatives. At 3:30pm, a meeting of German wine bloggers will be held at the DWI booth for the first time.

The DWI also uses the annual ProWein to share news about the German wine regions with international traders, buyers, sommeliers and journalists from around the world. For example, the “Orange Hour”, an information event for Dutch visitors on Sunday at 5pm or a meeting for guests from Scandinavia, with the title “Nordic Icebraker”, on March 28th at 4pm.

In celebration of the Women’s Soccer World Cup 2011, visitors may take a little rest this year by playing table football at the DWI booth. The motto is “You play - we donate”. Several sponsors, the DWI was able to win for this event, will be donating one Euro for children’s aid projects of the organization “Wine Saves Life” for every game played. (red.yoopress)
