German Wine Institute: Promoting export via „Alpen Cup“

GERMANY (Mainz) – One important area on which the German Wine Institute, Mainz, is focusing its work is promoting export. From time to time they go beyond the usual activities; this year, for instance, they are for the first time organizing the “Alpen Cup” for sommeliers and special retailers from Austria and Switzerland only; next time South Tyrol may participate. Some renowned professionals participated, too. In the end, a native German working in Switzerland won: christoph Kokemoor (“Cheval blanc” in the Les Trois Rois grand hotel, Bâle) won, Jürgen Siegfried Witschko (Turnher’s Alpenhof, Zürs am Arlberg) reached the second rank; René Antrag (a native Saxonian working in the Steirereck restaurant, Vienna, reached the third rank, and Stefan Schachner (Gasthaus zum Gupf, Rehetobel/Switzerland), reached the fourth rank.
