FRANCE (Straßburg) - November 20 - 22, Strassbourg hosted the 12th European Championship of Sommeliers, under the aegis of the ASI (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale). The French sommerlier's association UDSF  (Union de la Sommellerie Française), directed by Serge Dubs, the first European Sommelier-champion of 1988 and then sommelier-champion of 1989, organized the competition together with the ASI and with the support of the Alsace viticulture association CIVA  (Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins d’Alsace).

In the course of three days, the leading experts from well-known restaurants and wineries from 35 states fought for the popular title of "European Sommelier of the year 2010". The decision-makers were an international jury consisting of worldwide-known sommerliers and oenologists with SErge Dubs and Michele Chantome as leading jury members.

The participants had to show their knowhow in many categories, such as serving champagne, red wine, bubblies, determining various wine types and coordinating those with meals. After the first round with 35 participants and the semi finale with only 8 left, the big finale with 3 participants took place. The sommelier Thomas Sommer from the Castle Schlosshotel Lerbach in Bergisch Gladbach did an excellent job, however, he did not turn out to be among the finalists.  (red.yoopress)
