GERMANY (Kaiserslautern) - The WEINELF has won the indoor masters of top league of the hotel & restaurant sector. It is already a tradition that the German WEINELF ended its year at the soccer tournament of leading chefs and restaurateurs, which for the first time took place in Kaiserslautern this year. Not only did the wine team win the trophy, the prize for the best player was also awarded to the WEINELF: Pascal Sohns of the Sohns wine estate in the Rheingau was pleased to receive this award (... also see: Knolls Vintner Tipp – Discovered at soccer).

It was a successful tournament for the WEINELF treasurer: “We were not only pleased that we won the tournament or that Pascal won an award. We were also happy that our coach Lothar Böhm was able to be there. And finally, it is always a pleasure to play with our friends from the “Genussallianz” and to drink a glass of WEINELF wine afterwards regardless of how the game ends.

Apart from the hosting chef team, which is on cordial terms with the WEINELF in a “Genussallianz”, other teams, among others from Italy and Switzerland, took part in the tournament. In addition, a sponsor team as well as a team of the “Genussallianz” that included some players from the WEINELF team participated.

Furthermore, former national league player Hans Peter Briegel and Olaf Marschall, former professional soccer players Andreas Buck, Rolf Dohmen and Oliver Schäfer as well as the former bicycle racer Udo Bölts, Paralympics gold medal winner Wojtek Czyz and other celebrities announced to participate in order to present themselves as Axel Roos dream team at an interlude game.

After the game, the crowning finale took place Martin Scharff’s gourmet restaurant Wartenberger Mühle. There, the WEINELF was able to fittingly celebrate its victory and convince present chefs, hoteliers and sommeliers of the quality of German wines. A special highlight at the final reception was the presence of Horst Eckel, a 1954 world champion.

The entire proceeds were donated to the SoccaFive e.V. association “Schenken und Helfen”. The organization works in close collaboration with the youth department of the city of Kaiserslautern, and gives children from less privileged homes the opportunity to obtain a sports education at the Axel Roos Soccer School.
