GERMANY (Essen) – In 2010, the Ruhr area is presenting itself with Essen as its center and as a European culture capital under the name “RUHR 2010”. On January 9, the culture capital year 2010 was started by Federal President Horst Köhler at a ceremonial act in the UNESCO-world heritage Zeche Zollverein, the landmark of the region. The European culture capital “RUHR 2010” will offer its guests a versatile and sophisticated program with dancing, theater, music, art, creative events and discussion rounds.

Fifty-three top caterers from the most important cities of the Ruhr area, among them Bochum, Dortmund, Duisburg and Oberhausen, will provide guests with a culinary capital atmosphere. These caterers have come joined together in the society “ESSEN GENIESSEN E.V.” due to their conviction that eating and drinking are a vital part of the culture capital year. With the motto “Here Europe's heart cooks” these 53 restaurants will serve their Ruhr-menu-roller coaster 2010: Monthly changing, exciting and innovative 4-course meals that are based on Ruhr-typical products.

These meals are accompanied by also carefully selected wines and bubblies. For red wines, the 2008 Pinot Noir red wine QbA dry from the VDP winery Blankenhorn from the South Baden village of Schliengen was selected.

Matured and grown on deep mud-loess soil of the Schliengen Sun Piece (South-West position with 30 to 50 percent downwards inclination), completed according to the strict rules of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter – association of German certified wineries) and the know-how of a terrific top winery; Rosemarie “Roy” Blankenhorn, who has been the director of the winery Blankenhorn for 15 years in the South Baden village of Schliengen, is more than happy to officially deliver her Pinot Noir for ESSEN GENIESSEN 2010 e.V.
