"We know that the competition out there is great, which is why we would like to get as close as possible to our Asian customers and business partners in China", explains Augustin Lacaille, brand ambassador of Château Giraud and adds: "Many Asians are here in Bordeaux during the time of the moon fest. Many of our customers travel from there to be part of the harvest and since they cannot celebrate this holidy in Asia, we decided to come up with our own fest which we can then celebrate with them".
The moon fest, which is also called mid-fall fest, is celebrated in Asia according to the Chinese calendar on the 15th day of the 8th moon month. The traditional fest includes foods like moon cake with various sweet or salty fillings as well as meat and vegetarian fillings that you can devour with tea. Also, family and friends are rewarded with little gifts - in the past few years those gifts have included wine, particularly wine from Bordeaux. This was easily noticeable because Asians would order plenty of wines in time for the fest. However, this has changed tremendously this year.
"This year the orders from Asia were rather low", confirms Simon Davis, marketing director at Fine and Rare Ltd., which is located in London and Hong Kong. "In the past few years the majority of orders were placed right before the moon fest, however, this year this is not the case. Thus, the trend shows this development and I think that the storages in Hong Kong are full of wines from the Bordeaux and they don't need to order more at all". (red.yoopress)
