Christie’s estimates that the wines will bring in a total of £200,000 (about 235,000 Euros), and the auction is expected to realize total proceeds of £750,000 (about € 821,000 Euros). Christie’s values individual lots between £500 and £90,000 (approx. 586 to 105,000 Euros).
“I have already been thinking about selling some of my wine collection 5 years ago,” said Chris de Burgh. “But during the economic crisis, I have lost this idea again. Now that private collections around the world are very popular, it seems that the right time has come.”
According to Christie’s, the collection of Burgh is in an excellent condition and has been stored professionally. “I have tasted every wine that is now auctioned myself and I know what I'll miss,” said Burgh. “My wife, my daughter and I rather much prefer white wines. Nevertheless, I have always been interested in red wines of different vintages. Now that my cellar has more space left, I will focus on the rest of my collection.”
