Tim Fröhlich is very happy about the highest amount of points and thus his victory in the competition for the best Riesling-producer prize

GERMANY (Mainz) - Mainz was the scene for the award ceremony of the Riesling-producer prize, which has been held since 1989 every 2 years by the association ProRiesling and the wine magazine Vinum. Contrary to many other wine events, the focus here is really not on the individual wines. Much more important is the overall operational performance, which is determined in the pre-round and the finale of the best.

The winery Schäfer-Fröhlich from Bockenau (river Nahe) had the most points at the end, just before 3 other competitors, Jakob Schneider, Niederhausen (river Nahe), winery Wegeler from Oestrich-Winkel (Rhinegau) and surprisingly Knipser from the Rhineland-Palatinate Laumersheim, which is actually much more known for its excellent red wines. The strong overall performance of the wine-growing region Nahe was highlighted with number 5, the wineries Hexamer from Meddersheim and Schauss & Son from Monzingen.

The minister of economy and viniculture of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hendrik Hering, took care of the award ceremony. He was very glad "that German wine has gained a good reputation nationally and internationally thanks to these grapes." Hering himself wants to help out again next year. In turns with the ProRiesling/Vinum-competition, the international competition for best-of-riesling will take place. (r.knoll)
