GERMANY (Durbach) – For the first time ever, a German vintager, namely from the Winery Andreas Männle in the Baden Durbach, got the highest grade in the worldwide “Concurso Vino del Mundo Español”. 19.61 points was the grade for the 2007 Durbach Bienengarten Pinot Noir Beerenauslese Barrique, which competed in the category Red Wine sweet. The second-highest points with 19.58 went to the worldwide known Château Petrus from Pomerol near Bordeaux in the category Red Wine dry Barrique.

Junior Thomas Männle: “We are very proud to be mentioned along with such great names”. Altogether, 2,140 wines were graded in the contest, which is held irregularly and which is organized by the viticulture associations of the global Spanish-speaking countries. This year it took place in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic under the auspices of the Secretary of State for Agriculture,

Salvador Jimenz.José Maria Bravano, President of the competition, congratulated the German winery for its considerable success.

The wine was graded very high before at another international competition. At the Austrian Wine Challenge, AWC, 2009, the wine made it in second. More than 9000 wines participated in the competition in Vienna, which is now considered the world's second-largest and hardest wine competition. Even at the Wine Award of the Baden Viticulture Association 2009, the wine was in the TOP TEN, and also in the TOP TEN Ortenau, where it also received the highest grade of all participating wines.(d.simon)
