AUSTRIA (Wels) - This year's glamorous presentation of the new edition of the ale-house magazine “Where does Austria eat 2011?” took place at the Wirt am Berg in Wels. In the tradition inn near the B1 Autobahn, the gourmedia team Renate Wagner-Wittula and Klaus Egle were able to introduce a culinary society at the event for the 12th edition of the popular guide. Present were amongst others: Willi Klinger, manager of the Austrian Wine Marketing Corp (Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM) and the sommelier world champion Aldo Sohm.

Wine plays a big role in the guide “Where does Austria eat”. Thus, Markus Huber is once again hot topic and is named “Vintager of the Year”. “An inn without wine is no inn”, they say. This is why the authors of “Where does Austria eat” have a say in who gets the title. They have tastings of more than 300 wineries in Austria and South Tirol and elect the vintager of the year. This year, it is Markus Huber and he is from the Traisental.

The vintager, whose first vine field is called “Berg” (mountain), gladly accepted the prize at the “Wirt am Berg” in Wels. He celebrated his success together with Helmut Wiesinger, Patron and “Vintager of the Year”, and sommelier-world champion Aldo Sohm, who was named “Wine person of the year”. Renate Wagner-Wittula, Klaus Egle and ÖWM-boss Willi Klinger were all present.

Markus Huber is used to receiving awards. Amongst others he received the “Best White Wine Producer Award of the London-based “International Wine & Spirit Competition 2006” as well as the “Gold Medal at the Decanter World Vienna Awards” with the Grünen Veltliner Berg 2006. “Of course I am very happy about every award I get but I am particularly proud of my work being recognized in Austria”.

Mineral, pure wines that carry their origin in the glass. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are one of his most important vine types and with them, Markus Huber managed to rise from Reichersdorf to the top of the Austrian wine elite within 10 years. The Traisental-boy and member of Austria's tradition wineries is very optimistic about the new vintage by the way. “There won't be very large amounts, but if the weather stays as nice as it is, I look forward to an excellent year for white wines”. Seems like his next award is on its way already. (red.yoopress)
