The idea of the "Twitter Wine Awards" came from the once-a-month and very successful "Twitter Wine Tasting", which was originally the idea of wine-blogger Dirk Würtz. What is really special about this prize is that every wine lover, whether professional or not, can take part in the tasting and grading of the wines. Thus, a real "citizen's jury" was born from the first few tastings and naturally it mirrors quite an adequate opinion of many wine lovers in the area.
Participation was free of charge and all Pinot Noir wines from the vintages 2007, 2008 and 2009 were allowed in the competition. The only precondition was that none of the wines was more than 20 euro a piece. The best Pinot Noir received a prize in form of an image-video about the winery, issued by the German Wine Institute.
