Wines from all over the world are allowed to apply for the new Decanter Asia Wine Award, but as soon as the fixed amount is attained, only those wines available on the Asian market will be taken into consideration for the award.
Among the jury members - under the presidency of Steven Spurrier, Jeannie Cho Lee, M. W., and Gérard Basset, M. W., their deputy – there are also some persons who are particularly bound for Asia, such as wine author Ch’ng Poh Tiong, Michael Hill-Smith, M. W., wine journalist Andrew Jefford and sommelier Shinya Tasaki. Moreover, Christelle Guibert, Decanter Tasting Director, has signed on a group of jury members. Among them, there are Kavita Faiella, wine director and responsible for 12 of the best-known restaurants in Hong Kong, as well as Pauo Pong, managing director of the Altaya Wines company and responsible for the ETC wine shops, and Hervé Pennequin, chief sommelier of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and others.
The tasting taking place in September is supported by two further volunteers: Kwang-Pyo Eun, owner of the Casa del Vino in Seoul, and Marcus Ford, manager of the Pudao Wine Boutique in Shanghai. (red.yoopress)
