Prominent expert jury tastes 500 Silvaner wines from European wine-growing regions

The Silvaner forum offers an international Silvaner-tasting at the award of the golden vine scissor in the categories Basic, Premium and Nobel

GERMANY (Veitshöchheim) - On the occasion of the big anniversary "350 years Silvaner in Franconia" this week, a prominent jury gathered at the Bavarian regional institute for wine and garden cultivation Veitshöchheim (LWG - Landesanstalt für Wein- und Gartenbau) to taste about 500 wines. Among the 50 jury members were well-known wine journalists and wine experts like Cornelia Lange, Stuart Pigott and even the world champion of the sommeliers Markus del Monego.

This tasting was organized by the national association "Silvaner Forum", which was founded 10 years ago with the goal to support the quality of the Silvaner and to help it gain international acceptance. The association, with chairman Ferdinand Erbgraf of Castell-Castell, awarded the "Golden Vine Scissors" for the fifth time to the worldwide best Silvaner wines of the categories Basic, Premium and Nobel.

With management of Hermann Mengler, expert consultant for viniculture and cellar cultivation of the region Franconia, the gathered jury members tasted not less than 534 wines from Germany, France, Austria and Italy. Minister for agriculture Manfred Brunner will then give he "Golden Vine Scissors" to the winner on September 10th at the start of the Silvaner-symposium at the Würzburg Residence.

"The Silvaner-year has been very successful so far", says count of Castell Castell and Artur Steinmann, new chairman of the Franconian viniculture association adds: "The interest for the Silvaner has now also come up for international wine experts and wine journalists". (aw.yoopress)
