Bordelaiser curiosities high above the Rhine river

GERMANY (Rheinbreitbach) - Fascinating curiosities in Rheinbreitbach near Bonn. Wine merchant Christian Leve introduced a group of wine lovers to Bordelaise wines from various decades that stem from Winery La Lagune, Haut Médoc. Despite it's grade of "only" third top wine within the Médoc-classification of 1855, it is still considered a wine from one of Bordelais' top wineries (Robert M. Parker: "One of my favorite wineries from the Crus Classés“). However, the winery seems to have a rather volatile past. Founded in the early 18th century, the winery was mismanaged considerably about 70 years ago until the new owner managed to turn it around completely in 1958. However, only 3 years later, this investor ran out of money and the Champagne house Ayala took over. Then, in the mid-60s a woman took over La Lagune. Jeanny Boyrie successfully brought the winery back with focus on red wine sales. After her death in 1986, her daughter Caroline took over.
