AUSTRIA (Vienna) - Every two years, the Hofburg Palace in Vienna is all about wine. The VieVinum, Austria’s largest and most beautiful wine fair, will again open its doors from May 29th to 31st and invites all wine lovers to taste the new wines produced by more than 400 predominantly local winemakers. Every time, the Austria Wine Marketing (ÖWM) takes this as an opportunity to invite international journalists, retailers, importers and sommeliers to Vienna, and thereby gives winemakers the opportunity to make new contacts and strengthen existing business relationships. By doing so, the ÖWM particularly aims at increasing the international distribution of local wines abroad.

This year, the fair achieves an absolute record number of participants: About 850 international guests from 43 nations will follow the invitation of the ÖWM to attend the VieVinum and the extensive program on the weekend. Many take their trip to Austria as a reason to stay a little longer in order to visit individual winemakers and to get to know our winegrowing regions even better.

Another wine country will also be there: South Tyrol is presenting itself, after Switzerland had its turn two years ago. German wines will be represented at various tastings. Among other things, the wine magazine Vinum will hold an international contest on Sunday afternoon (May 30th) where Austria, South Tyrol and Germany will each enter seven Sauvignon Blanc wines. The audience can also taste the wines. An equally represented jury will make the decisions onstage. (r.knoll)
