Vintner talent from the Moselle: Philipp Kettern likes it steep

GERMANY (Piesport) - It was not that long ago that the Moselle was listed with 13,000 hectares as one of the biggest wine-growing areas. Today, this number has shrunk to 9,000 hectares. Those passing through the area will notice a lot of wasted land that used to grow plenty of Riesling. Many of these fields were given up because they were too much work or the low yield was just not worth all that work. If a you're a winemaker without a known name, it is hard to push prices that secure your livelyhood as a producer. Nevertheless, there are some young winemakers that set their hopes on this ancient wine region. Best example: Philipp Kettern from Piesport.
