GERMANY (Niederhausen) – The long name Gutsveraltung Niderhausen-Schlossböckelheim, Niederhausen (former Staatliche Weinbaudomäne Niederhausen-Schlossböckelheim) has had its day. The former flagship of the Nahe winegrowing region, which had its heyday in the sixties and seventies, is to forge ahead after a repeated change of ownership. The Mauer family (who bought estate, which totaled 34 hectares back then, for 7.5 million D-Mark in 1998) transferred the estate to entrepreneur Jens Reidel from Frankfurt. The estate is given a more memorable name: As of recently, the former Prussian domain, which was established in 1902, is called Hermannsberg wine estate.

The 30-hectare estate is now named after the top site Niederhäuser Hermannsberg, which is exclusively owned by the 30-hectare domain. The new name was a decision made by the new owner, who bought the estate in the summer of 2009 together with his management team Oliver Müller (managing director) and Karsten Peter (operating manager).

Müller can use his good relations within the top restaurant & hotel sector to find new customers. He is one of the most renowned sommeliers in Germany; he worked for Glockenbach, Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten Munich, Alfons Schuhbeck, for example. Peter hails from a family of winemakers in Bad Dürkheim. He gained experience in Burgundy, in Australia and New Zealand, and he worked for his brother-in-law Tim Fröhlich (Schäfer-Fröhlich wine estate) in Bockenau (Nahe region), and most recently he worked at the Schloss Westerhaus wine estate in Rheinhessen. He already took full responsibility for the 2009 Hermannsberg vintage (first presentation at the ProWein at the VDP-booth)

The new owner watches over everything. Reidel, a 58-year old business graduate, has worked in leading positions at Beiersdorf from 1977 to 1990. He then went to the investment sector and was chairman of the PC Partners associate company in Germany and England. He retired in 2009. The business press certified that he has managed to help BC through the crisis. The father of 7 children is now looking for a new challenge. (r.knoll / translator e.meissner).
