SPAIN (Valbuena de Duero) - The renowned Spanish producer Vega Sicilia is lost in a terrible family conflict. It is basically about how the business is run and thus following quarrels between CEO Pablo Alvarez and his father David Alvarez.

Vega Sicilia, which was founded in 1859 has vineyards in the Ribera del Duero. In 1982, the winery was turned over to the dignified control of the Alvarez family that had already been shareholders back then and quickly took over the whole buisness. Some time after that, David Alvarez delegated the leadd to his son. However, there has been numerous issues going on between father and son, particularly concerning the future direction of Vega Sicilia.

In 2009 it was so bad that David Alvarez decided to take this matter to court at the age of 83 years. Vega Sicilia declined to comment on any of this, however. The Alvarez family is very reluctant to mention this conflict at all. Pablo Alvarez said in an interview with the Decanter: "It is part of our policy not to talk about family or personal issues".

According to Pablo Alvarez, the family is facing an expensive and difficult lawsuit. "Seeing as how it takes forever for any lawsuits to be settled, we are probably looking at 2 to 5 years", says Alvarez and adds "of course we are not happy that it got this far, after all, noone is going to benefit from winning this fight. However, we are not the first family that has to go through this and we will certainly not be the last either". (red.yoopress)
