Austrian sparkling wine with new quality pyramid

ÖSTERREICH (Wien) - Austrians are not really at a loss for words. “This is the emergence into a new era and a milestone for Austria’s sparkling wine business which will go down in the history of vinification”, Willi Klinger, managing director of Österreich Wein Marketing, announced in Vienna, during the presentation of a new, three-level regulation for sparkling wine made out of Austrian basic wine just before the “Tag des österreichischen Sekts” (Day of Austrian Sparkling Wine). This event has been organized since 2010, always on October 22 because as experience teaches this is the moment when the sparkling wine season really begins, and during the following two months, about 12 million bottles are opened, which equals about 45 percent of the annual consumption.
