FRANCE (Paris) - Abroad, wine and champagne from France are as demanded as never before: In the past year, wine and spirits export increased by 10.5 percent compared to the year before. As the FEVS (Fédération des Exportateurs de Vins et Spiritueux de France - Federation of French Wine and Spirits Exporters) now reported in Paris, the French sold alcoholic beverages valued at just over 10 billion euro abroad. Sales difficulties occurred, however, on traditional markets within the EU, in particular in Germany and the UK.

Even though, in the past year, Europe - with exports that amount for over 4.1 billion euro - remained the largest market, followed by Asia with an export volume of 2.5 billion euro. There, the FEVS recorded the largest increase - a plus of 29 percent. The American continent is on the third rank with 2,1 billion euro and an increase of 9 percent.

“The volume has increased by 2.2 percent, too”, a FEVS spokesman explained. “In general, the half-year figures show gratifying results in exports, not only concerning the value but as well concerning the amount. As far as the origin is concerned, products from Bordeaux, Champagne, Burgundy and Cognac occupy the first ranks. This is as well due to the demand from Asia, above all from China, Singapore and Hong Kong.” (red.yoopress)
