ITALY (Rome) - Hundreds of vintagers from 20 European countries signed a "Manifest of European Vintagers" in Florence yesterday. This manifest included the process of sustainable viticulture in the field and market. This manifest was initiated by Slow Food, in charge was the Slow Food Tuscany with the topic "Eco-gastronomical changes".

The charter that was signed by the vintagers in the famous Palazzo Vecchio in Florence now offers a chance for European authorities and also for the supplying industry to support the producers with intelligent rules and laws as well as technical and organic means with the current climate discussion in mind.

The members of the charter promise that they are prepared to take the responsibility over the sustainability and improvement of the soil productivity and the respective eco-systems as much as they can. Furthermore, they agree to go without molecules, organisms and artificial synthetic substances and much more concentrate on the quality than on quantity.

"Every bottle of wine is a cultural product. Wine connects history, tradition and identity with the producer. An industrially produced wine has nothing of that", explains Roberto Bures, chairman of Slow Food Italy.

The movement Slow Food was founded in Italy in 1988. The snail is the important symbol and the fight of the movement is against fast food, the standardization of taste, the loss of traditional gastronomy and also more and more the industrially produced wines. Slow Food currently has more than 100.000 members in 132 countries. (aw.yoopress)
