USA (Virginia) - In 1985, Patricia and John Kluge (who in 1987 was estimated by Forbes to be America’s richest man) had built the 800 hectare estate including wine cellar in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1990, Patricia took over the estate including all vineyards as part of their divorce settlement, but she participated in the management of the winery from as late as 1999 on. From 2008, she had financial problems, and in June, 2011, she had to declare bankruptcy.

Then, in the auction, Donald Trump, the US billionaire, real estate tycoon and former candidate for presidency, purchased the estate. Trump paid 6.2 million US dollar (about 4.98 million euro) and installed Eric, his son, as managing director. John Kluge, a longtime friend of Mr. Trump senior’s, became vice president to support Eric Trump.

By this constellation, Patricia Kluge, who continued to be the managing director after the taking over by Mr. Trump, has now been exonerated from her duties, although Bill Moses, her second husband, is allowed to keep his job as general manager. “We still continue to collaborate closely with Patricia and we cultivate a good relationship to her”, Donald Trump was quoted in the New York Post. The article said, too, there was no antagonism between the persons involved.

“I will be eternally grateful to Donald for saving the wine cellar”, Patricia is being quoted by the Washington Post. And Erich Trump said: “Currently, we are cultivating 300 hectares. This makes us the biggest winery on the east coast. I wish to develop our winery to one of the best wineries in the country, and I want to have the mansion rebuilt into a luxury hotel.”

Due to the services of Bordeaux counselor Michel Rolland, the former Kluge Estate Winery, situated quite close to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello Estate and now renamed “Trump Winery”, got positive but not excellent valuations. Eric Trump junior can prove his knowledge with the vintages to follow. (red.yoopress)
