„We started with nothing and managed to achieve a lot", explains Gérard Bertrand. "Our market in the US has a price range of 8 and 20 dollars. Our American distributers are located in all of the 50 states. Communicating with our consumers in America is pretty easy - they have a much better understanding of southern France than Languedoc or Minervois. This is why we market southern France as a whole."
"Education matters in China", says Bertrand. He wants to introduce the Chinese to the „L´Art de Vivre“. "We are introducing the Chinese to our southern France style. We offer a package of history and lifestyle and hope that we can convince and conquer the Asian market. Our sales in Japan are pretty good already, but we're just getting started in China. It is our goal to achieve the same export volume in China as in the US", explains Bertrand.
Gérard Bertrand has already entered into a joint venture with the Chinese distributor and importer Summergate. The goal is to export roughly 12 million bottles to China within the next four years. However, the price range will be much different there than in the US, namely 8 to 50 euro. "We have set up an office in Shanghai with two employees that are taking care of all the necessary preparations", he says.
Gérard Bertrand owns 6 properties in the Languedoc, among them the flagship Château de L'Hospitalet in La Clape, where he has his main office. His wines won 57 awards at the Decanter World Wine Award, among them one gold, 15 silver and one Region Trophy for the Gérard Bertrand Château L'Hospitalet La Réserve 2011. (red.yoopress)
