GERMANY (Mainz) - “German wine fund: Bundesrechnungshof (German SAI) recommends abolition”, the professional Weinwirtschaft magazine wrote in a headline in its online issue, thus causing a great deal of excitement within the business. The report probably was grist to the mill of German producers, who are suing against this extra duty that they have been forced to pay to the Deutsche Weininstitut (German Wine Institute; DWI) for its advertising activities for decades. However, the Mainz-based institute has won in front of all courts by now, including the Bundesverwaltungsgericht (Federal Administrative Court). At the moment, there is only a constitutional complaint (no lawsuit) pending that the Federal Administrative Court has to rule in.
