Retter won out over eleven of his sommelier competitors and convinced with his expert knowledge, charm and professional dealing with wine

AUSTRIA (Vienna) - Gerhard Retter, director of the Fischerklause Lütjensee in Eastern Hamburg, is Austria's best sommelier. He will represent his home country, which he has been neglecting for some years out of professional reasons, at the world championship of sommeliers in Chile next year. He could very well win against his eleven competitors in the country competition.

Retter gained some experience among others in Witzigmanns "Aubergine" in Munich, at Heinz Hanner in Mayerling near Vienna and he was restaurant director of the "Adlon" in Berlin, before he relocated the business of his parents-in-law to Northern Germany with his wife.

Besides various tastings, the Austrian sommelier association and its president Annemarie Foidl thought of some very hard tasks for example wine explanations in English, value-assessment of rare wines and trying to find mistakes in wine menus. Retter and the runner-up Andreas Jechmayer (Mörwald) convinced not only with their professional knowledge but also with their charm and dealing with wine. (r.knoll)
