GERMANY (Escherndorf) - At this year's International Wine and Spirit Competition the winery Horst Sauer was among the German wine producers with the most awards for its wines beside the wineries Schloss Reinhartshausen, Josef Stoerrlein and Schloss Schönborn. Thus, four candidates were nominated for the titel "German Wine Producer of the Year".

There were rumors and speculations like at the popular Oscar awards, but noone knew the name of the winner beforehand. Thus, Sandra Sauer was extremely happy when she heard "The winner is...Winery Horst Sauer".

Sandra Sauer is still very excited about the event in London: "I was very impressed by the event. I had a chance to meet all kinds of winemakers from all around the world. All the guests were dressed up with smokings and evening gowns. When the moment came for speeches the whole room was completely silent. It was an amazing feeling when they called our name".

The Winery Horst Sauer received the award for its complete list of wines that it had sent in for the "International Wine and Spirit Competition". The jury was very impressed by the four dry and two silky wines. They even won the categories "Gold Best in Class" twice. A 2005 Escherndorfer Lump Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese and a 2005er Escherndorfer Lump Silvaner Trockenbeerenauslese were named best wines in each categories.

"We are very happy about this prize. We received this one before in 2004 for the first time, almost at the same time as the award "White wine maker of the Year". It is nice to see this success confirmed", says Sauer.

The International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London is one of the biggest wine competitions in the world with roughly 5000 participating wines from circa 50 countries. The competition was founded in 1969 by a union of English oenologists and wine traders. Previous "German Wine Producer of the year" winners were the Winery Künstler, the Bürgerspital, Winery Prinz von Hessen as well as the  Vintner's Association Nordheim. (red.yoopress)
