The term “Generation Riesling” represents a highly trained, cosmopolitan and ambitious generation of young winegrowers in Germany

GERMANY (Mainz) - The Generation Riesling has been present on the Internet with its own website since September 2nd 2009. Here, those interested can find information about young winegrowers, cellar masters as well as other wine experts, who "give a face" to the quality wines from all 13 German wine-growing regions.

Currently, around 165 members joined the Generation Riesling following an initiative by the German Wine Institute (DWI). The group is particularly open to all young winemakers in the wine industry, who - regardless of grape variety - view themselves as flagships of a modern, high-quality and dynamic viticulture in Germany.

"By launching the website, we have created a supra-regional platform for the young generation in a medium, which has in the meantime become the most important research instrument of our time", explains DWI managing director Monika Reule.

Most of the contents are provided and administered by the members of the Generation Riesling, and completed by the latest information of the DWI. The website provides member profiles, statements about their respective philosophies in terms of quality as well as their motives to be involved in the Generation Riesling. Currently, not all member portraits are online. They will gradually be added in the next couple of days.

Furthermore, the pages provide information on events and news related to the individual members, but also on joint activities conducted by the Generation Riesling, such as appearances at the Riesling beach bar in Cologne or at universities both in Germany and abroad.

Different search functions, e.g. for wines, certain grape varieties or regions as well as diverse event types make it easier to find of certain members and are also supposed to encourage users to contact Generation Riesling directly.

"We hope that the Generation Riesling creates a movement joined by as many as possible. It is supposed to go towards carrying the young and modern image of German wine into the world", says Reule.

What is Generation Riesling?

"Generation Riesling" represents a highly trained, cosmopolitan and ambitious generation of young winegrowers in Germany, be it as winemaker or managing director or cellar master in a co-operative or cellar. The term indeed places special emphasis on the Riesling as currently being the most modern German grape variety, to gain as much attention as possible, but it is by no means supposed to exclude young male and female winemakers, who rather rely on Silvaner, Lemberger, Burgundy or other grape varieties. The German Wine Institute (DWI) has been looking for young people, under 35, who belong to the above mentioned category of persons, and who are prepared to take part in events, quasi as ambassadors of the Generation Riesling and as young representatives of Germany's modern, high-quality and dynamic viticulture. Upon registration, spoken languages, training, stays abroad and target markets were retrieved. Currently, 165 members are enrolled. (aw.yoopress)
