AUSTRIA (Vienna) - Between October 22nd and 26th, the wine country Austria was the focus of the international wine blogger community. Schönbrunn Castle served as the stylish venue for the European Wine Bloggers Conference (EWBC), which was enticed to Vienna through the initiative of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB). The event was organized by Gabriella and Ryan Opaz of Catavino Marketing and Robert McIntosh from The Wine Conversation.

The conference has already been held for the third time - this year for the first time outside of the Iberian Peninsula - it gathered wine bloggers, journalists, key professionals from wine trade and social media experts in one setting to discuss the latest challenges for the wine sector and the web. The Austrian Wine Marketing Board and the domestic wine industry ensured that, besides the seminars, discussions and new wine web ideas, Austrian wine always was the center of attention. Apart from a tasting of Austrian wine archetypes, presentations by 20 winemakers at the conference, and an evening at a traditional Viennesse Heurigen, the big Austrian Wine Party provided for a hot atmosphere with cool music on Saturday night at the Österreicher im MAK.

After the conference, all of the wine bloggers had the opportunity to get to know domestic wine-growing areas. On Sunday, visitors could choose between tours to the Burgenland, to the Donau River and to the Weinviertel, and on Monday and Tuesday, there were special press tours to the areas with Austria’s regionally typical wines.

“We Austrians had so much fun discussing, tasting and celebrating with bloggers from over thirty countries. And I believe we fit very well together:  The blogging community is very exciting, young and smart, just like our wine,” said a delighted Willi Klinger, president of the AWMB, about the successful EWBC.
