“How Wine became Modern” is the first exhibition devoted to the modern, global wine culture. “We are thrilled that Schloss Wackerbarth is part of the exhibition,” says Libby Garrison of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Emphasis is put on the unique integration of modern architecture of the adventure wine estate into the baroque ensemble and traditional viticultural landscape of Schloss Wackerbarth. The Saxon State Wine Domain was selected to present the section “Wine, Architecture and Tourism”, in which thirty of the most significant wine estates of the world, selected by the museum, are presented.
Henry Urbach, curator of the exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: “Through innovations in the wine industry, its own form of representation and the connection to culture, architecture, graphic, industrial design, visual arts, performance arts and film, wine has become modern in many different parts of the world. And it is here, in this field between nature and culture, in which the social meaning of wine is reflected in cultural debates of our contemporary time, including the rank of the winegrowing region and authenticity, in an increasingly global and structured world.”
Schloss Wackerbarth’s marketing director, Michael Thomas, said: “It is a great tribute to the state of Sachsen that Schloss Wackerbarth was selected to represent Germany at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. It is also honors the innovative concept as well as the professional, identity-defining realization of the idea of creating the first European adventure wine estate. We’re pleased to communicate tradition and modernity of 850 years of viticulture in Sachsen across the world in the anniversary year.” (red.yoopress)
