Georges Haushalter is the new president of the Bordeaux Wine Council

FRANCE (Bordeaux) – Georges Haushalter was elected President at the General Assembly of the Bordeaux Wine Council held on Monday, July 19th, 2010. In accordance with the statute of the CIVB, Georges Haushalter will be head of the association for three years. He succeeds winemaker Alain Vironneau, whose term ended on regular terms.

Presidents of the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) are elected every three years, alternately chosen from the ranks of winegrowers and négociants of the Bordelaise region. Born on April 11th, 1960 and an ESSEC graduate, Georges Haushalter has been general manager of the Compagnie Medocaine des Grands Crus wine merchant house in Blanquefort since 2002.

He has already been vice president of the CIVB General Assembly, president of the “Union des Maisons de Bordeaux” (union of Bordeaux wine houses) and since December 2008, he has been president of the “Fédération des Syndicats du Commerce en Gros des Vins et Spiritueux de Bordeaux et de la Gironde” (Bordeaux wine merchants association).

Between 2006 and 2008 he chaired the CIVB Marketing Commission. Haushalter has many years of experience in the area of strategic marketing, and he, amongst others, has been working for Procter & Gamble France as well as Pepsi Cola International, before he transferred to the Bordeaux wine sector. Founded in 1948, the CIVB is the link between representatives coming from the three areas of the French wine industry: Winegrowing, trade and negotiation. The areas of economy, technology, communication and advertising are in the focus of its national and international activities.

With a marketing budget of 20.8 million Euros (2010), the CIVB supports its members, amongst others, with advertising, sales promotion at point of sale, training and further education through the CIVB Wine School (Ecole du Vin), and with press and PR work in 21 countries.
