However, the motives for having an own vineyard are much more versatile and profound; status is rather of secondary importance. Why does a very own vineyard seem to be so fascinating to so many wine lovers? What feelings come up in a hobby vintager's mind when he thinks about his own dream vineyard and what motives ultimately make the wine lover actually get his own vineyard?
Many wine fans see something romantic in the idea of a very own vineyard: The vintager profession nowadays is one of the very few professions in this world, that accompanies the product from the very beginning up to the sale to the customer, which gives wine some sort of personality. Not only celebrities like the actor Gérard Depardieu with his vineyard in Anjou or the tv-host Günther Jauch with his vineyard von Othegraven in Kanzem along the Saar appreciate a wine from their very own vine: Traditionally, succssful people have always invested in this romantic pleasure. There are many reasons for this: Love for the wine, dealing with nature, prestige, social contacts, originality, rural idyll.
Let us hear from some “hobby vintagers”, who have already made their dream come true and have their own vineyard.

I am at home in my home in Hamburg, but also in other places within Germany. For example at Sylt, or in the Rhinegau. Once you've been there and seen the romantic landscape of the vineyards, you will understand why anyone would want their own vineyard. I have almost made this dream come true. My very own vineyard. Yes, it does make me proud and happy to go into my own vineyard when I have time to help with the picking of the grapes, to drink my wine at home and give it to people I like.”

The idea of getting my own vineyard was more of a professional decision since I would always give my customers a bottle of wine when we were doing business. This is very typical when you live near a wine-growing region. However, it is not very creative for a marketing consultant like me. But when it comes to handing over a bottle of wine from your own vineyard, with an individual tag, that is a very personal gift that you could not find anywhere else. And this is exactly how the people felt that received this gift and besides, of course I love drinking my own wine. After all, it is made according to my taste preferences.”

He loves wine and you can really call him a wine fan. We would always give him wine for certain occasions. Then, there is the gift of a very own vine, but I don't think that's very original. When I read about the “Vintager Lodge” in a newspaper and found out that you can have your own vineyards or fields in the vineyards I thought it would be perfect. It was exactly what I was looking for. So, on his birthday he will receive an ownership certificate for his own vineyard. I couldn't think of a better idea for a gift.”

Of course you cannot forget about taste when it comes to this. My business colleagues and friends are always happy about a bottle of wine with my own tag – this is a gift with a long-lasting effect. Every now and then, I have some of my wine turned into bubbly – basically a homemade vintager bubbly. I forget about every other champagne when I taste this bubbly!” |
Naturally, not many people can afford their own vineyard – not to mention the work that is involved. Jochen Hinz and Wolfgang Junglas are now offering a new way to do this with their vintager lodge: For an acceptable amount of money you can get your own wine from your own vineyard.
Partners of the vintager lodge are the VDP wineries Fritz Allendorf, winery Johannishof and winery Hans Lang, who are offering parts of land or vineyards for this project.
Now you're curious? You can find more details, information and contact data about the “Vintager Lodge” on their website (see tip) (w.junglas)
