Only the best vintages are named Vintages – although the declaration is not really consistent, most port wine producers share the same valuations

USA (Monkton) – Robert Parkers Wine Advocate honors the 2007 Vintage Port. Out of 59 tasted port wines, an incredible 40 of those was awarded 90 or even more Parker points. Robert Parkers lieutenant, Jay Miller, who has been on Parkers side since 1985 and who is an expert for American, Spanish, Greek as well as Vintage Ports, awarded Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha with 98 points, followed by Grahams's Vintage port with 97 points. On average, the port wines tasted by Jay Miller, all received 90.5 points.

“There is no doubt that the year 2007 will be a high-class vintage, Jay Miller wrote on Parkers website. “In comparison with 2003, the year of an excellent vintage despite long heatwaves, the 2007 Vintage Port is a lot nicer and has a huge amount of potential”. Miller says about this: “Those ports awarded with less points should mature for 6 to 8 years, on top of that I would recommend the ones awarded with more than 90 points to mature up to 20 years. Then we will see if the 2007 Port can keep up with the vintages 2003, 2000, 1994, 1985, 1977, 1970 and 1963 – we will see, the chances are good”.

Not only Jay Miller praises the high quality and the exceptional easy style of the Vintage Port 2007, Richard Mayson, British wine expert and author of a luminary for port, Madeira, Sherry and in general for wines from Spain and Portugal, also says: “The 2007 port wines are already so vivid in their youth, they are very dynamic and have a fascinating purity and strong fruit aroma – something that I have rarely seen in young Vintage port wines”.
