Mike Roberts and his team were thrilled “beyond all description”. Roberts had invited his entire staff to the awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Visibly proud, Roberts and his son entered the stage amid loud applause. “I thought – damn, that’s us – we won the trophy, and that despite these competitors,” says Mike Roberts.
“What a result for Ridgeview – they are popular winners,” says Christelle Guibert, Tastings Director at the Decanter World Wine Awards. “It is really remarkable that the Crosvenor Blanc de Blanc beat such great Champagnes. England now belongs to the exclusive club of truly world class sparkling wine producers.”
Ridgeview, a 5.8ha family-run wine estate, produces five different cuvees each year. As well as its award-winning Grosvenor, these cuvees represent areas of London, including Bloomsbury, Cavendish, Fitzrovia and Knightsbridge. Mike Roberts founded Ridgeview with his wife Christine in 1995. Their daughter Tamara, their son Simon and his wife Mardi all work for the winery in the areas of production and distribution.
