Wine is part of the Mediterranean diet, which is unrestrictedly healthy and which is recommended quite a bit. Good health and a long life despite a high-fat diet - this is also described in the so-called "French paradoxon". Fruit, vegetables, olive oil and a few glasses of red wine daily: all these contain a high amount of bioactive substances in the form of vegetable polyphenoles, which are generally counted among the group of tannins.
There are numerous dependable studies about the positive effect wine can have on your heart and bloodstream and thus also a longer life. The number of heart attacks and strokes for people who consume wine regularly is much lower and their life expectance much higher. The so-called "bad" cholesterol, the LDL (Lipoprotein), which attributes to arterial plaque, is one of the things wine can help minimize, because it acts as an antioxidant. On top of that, wine has even more positive effects. The University of Cologne found out that wine stimulates kidneys and thyroids. Furthermore, there have been plenty of studies which suggest that wine consumers show a lower number of cancer, dementia and kidney failure.
The health-promoting effect of wine is not only attributable to the alcohol in the wine, however. Rather, it is the combination of alcohol and other important substances that are responsible for the positive health effect of wine. Many wine consumers think that only red wine has these advantages, however, there is definite proof that a moderate wine consumption of all wines works.
However, don't think that a regular wine consumption only improves your health over time. The recommendations for wine are always stated in higher numbers than in older studies. Today, 0.2 liters of wine for women and 0.3 liters for men are considered health-promoting and harmless. (a.kohnen)
