GERMANY (Bad Neuenahr / Ahrweiler) – Who would have thought! In Germany’s thirteen wine growing areas, more than three hundred million liters of wine are produced every year by cooperatives. About 200 vintners’ cooperatives are cultivating 34,000 hectares of vineyards and are, thus, producing more than one third of all wines in Germany. The importance of Germany’s vintners’ cooperatives is enormous because it is above all part-time vintners and rather small wine estates that benefit from joint production and sales of their wines.
