GERMANY (Hamburg) - The conferment of the award of the Hamburg-based magazine WEIN GOURMET on the eve of the ProWein-fair has been a long tradition. Deceased Alois Kracher was given the Award of Excellenc and Martha and Daniel Gantenbein from Switzerland were honored Vintager of the Year.
Two non-vintagers were also honored: The actress Iris Berben was awarded the title of Wine Gourmet of the Year and the author, gourmet and gastronomy-critic Wolfgang Siebeck was given a lifetime achievement award for his culinary masterpiece.
Among others were awarded: 34-year-old Oliver Haag from the winery Fritz Haag from the Moselle (collection of the year 2006), the vintager Giampaolo Motta from Fattoria La Massa in Panzano/Tuscany (newcomer of the year), the Spanish winery Vega Sicilia from the Ribera del Duero region (wine legend) and 93-year-old Livio Felluga from Friaul (lifetime achievement).
